I am from Houston, Texas. My state senator is Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. He became the Junior U.S senator for Texas 2013. He has been a Senator in Texas since then.

Cruz, less commonly known as Rafael Edward Cruz, was born in Calgary Edward, Canada. His father was born in Cuba, and his mother was born in Delaware. His parents resided in Canada when he was born due to thier job in the oil industry.

Then, the Cruz family moved to Houston, Texas when he was four years old. Cruz graduated from Second Baptist School, and eventually attended Princeton University, where he studied Public Policy, then continued his education at Harvard Law School.

Before becoming a Senator, Cruz has also served as clerk to Chief Justice William Rehnquist, associate deputy attorney general, U.S. Department of Justice, where he was director of the Office of Policy Planning and served in the Federal Trade Commission where he was solicitor general of Texas.

Beyond this, he also practiced law. In 2013 he became the Junior U.S senator for Texas. He ran for the republican ticket in 2016, eventually losing it to President Trump.

In 2018, he went head to head with Beto O’Rourke, past congressman and presidential candidate, in the senate midterms. Cruz narrowly won the race 50.9% to 48.3%, a 2.6 percentage difference.

Cruz has been a very outspoken member of the Senate. His most passionate issues are border security, school choice and gun-rights. He is also popular for refuting and advocating against bills proposed by his democratic colleagues.

My favorite bill the Cruz has proposed on the Senate floor, is a tax-relief bill he presented for those affected by Hurricane Harvey in 2017. This bill would provide additional tax reductions and waived penalties from withdraws from Tax advantaged accounts.
